- be friendly, open, interested in the art already there and their main asset
- look for holes: where could you put your work physically, and what type of work should it be?
- talk about pricing straight away
- remember it's for them, not you. you won't be looking at it every day of the week, 9 to 5
WHEN TALKING PRICES
- don't sell out
- charge for materials used
- charge 15$ and hour for baby stuff, 25$ an hour for average stuff, 50$ an hour for pro stuff
- write it down so you remember what you agreed on
WHEN CREATING THE ART
- keep the peoples informed (email, tumblr, etc)
- keep tabs on materials used+cost, hours worked
- use good quality stuff
- test everything. twice
WHEN FINISHING THE ART
- varnish if you can
- 3 coats
- stir, don't mix
- create tent to avoid dust particles floating in
- bubbles... try to get rid of them... somehow...
- ensure the sides are presentable (paint and varnish)
WHEN BRINGING THE ART OVER/ FINISHING THE TRANSACTION
- cover it up properly so it doesn't get damaged or dirty
- ask for a receipt
- leave a stack of business cards
- chat and be friendly
WHEN BEING AN ARTIST
- don't be a snob
- be visible
- always have your business card handy
